Slinger, WI – [March 7, 2025] – Firefighters responded to a residential fire on the 600 block of North Main Street on the morning of March 6, 2025. Crews arrived to find a two-story home with smoke pushing from the roof and soffit and visible fire at the rear of the structure.
Emergency personnel from Hartford Fire & Rescue, working alongside Hartford Police Department officers, conducted a rapid search of the home. A female resident was safely removed from a basement bedroom, and a dog was rescued from the first-floor living room. As part of the suppression efforts, a Fire Suppression Tool (FST) extinguishment device was deployed on the second floor.
As suppression efforts got underway, crews advanced a hose line to the second floor to begin extinguishment while additional teams swept all three levels of the home to confirm no other residents remained inside. Ventilation crews worked simultaneously to clear hazardous smoke, heat, and fire gases from the structure. On-site EMS personnel provided support, ensuring firefighter rehabilitation and maintaining accountability for all responding units. During the search, two cats were located and safely removed from the home.
The female resident was transported to AMC Hartford Hospital for evaluation and was released shortly after. No injuries were reported among fire personnel. Due to the fire, smoke, and water damage, the residents were displaced.
Mutual aid was provided through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), with the alarm upgraded from the Working Still level to the 1st Box level. Fire departments from Slinger, St. Lawrence, Jackson, Richfield, Neosho, and Iron Ridge, as well as Lifestar Ambulance, responded to assist. Hartford Electric & Water Utilities and WE Energies also secured the home’s electrical, water, and gas utilities.
The fire was contained before it could cause significant structural damage. While the living spaces sustained minimal fire damage due to the rapid suppression efforts, smoke and water damage affected all levels of the home.
Fire investigators from Hartford Fire & Rescue, in collaboration with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, conducted an origin and cause investigation. The cause remains undetermined pending further analysis of the home’s electrical system.
