Slinger, WI – January 19, 2025 – Fire Suppression Solutions is pleased to report another successful deployment of the Fire Suppression Tool (FST), this time by Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP) officers during a residential fire in the Village of Independence, Trempealeau County.
Last week, Trooper Wojcik responded to a reported structure fire, arriving to find smoke billowing from the front door and a female resident safely outside the home. With assistance from a deputy and a volunteer firefighter, Trooper Wojcik entered the home to conduct a search, successfully locating and removing the family dog from the residence.
Inside the kitchen, flames were seen coming from the exhaust fan above the stove. Once the home was fully evacuated, Trooper Wojcik deployed his Fire Suppression Tool (FST) directly on the stove, successfully extinguishing the fire before it could spread further. When the fire department arrived, they fumigated the home to clear residual smoke.
This incident highlights the effectiveness of the FST in quickly knocking down fires, particularly in critical moments before full fire suppression teams arrive. The Wisconsin State Patrol began receiving FSTs last year, thanks in part to the generous donations from the Wisconsin Masonic Foundation, which continues to equip law enforcement and fire agencies with these life-saving tools.
“This is another example of how the FST provides first responders with a critical tool to control fires quickly and protect lives and property,” said Rick Cohn, a consultant with Fire Suppression Solutions. “Thanks to the rapid actions of Trooper Wojcik and the responding officers, a dangerous kitchen fire was extinguished before it could cause severe damage or injury.”
The FST works by disrupting the fire’s chemical reaction, rapidly reducing heat and flames. While not a replacement for full fire suppression systems, it provides immediate containment, helping to prevent fires from escalating.
