Slinger, WI – [March 20, 2025] – Fire Suppression Solutions is proud to report the successful deployment of a Fire Suppression Tool (FST) during a structure fire in Hartford, Wisconsin, that occurred earlier this morning. The device was used as part of a coordinated emergency response to a fire in the basement of a restaurant on E. Jackson Street, housed within a two-story, multi-occupancy building.
At approximately 9:00 a.m., Hartford Fire & Rescue responded to reports of heavy black smoke coming from the restaurant’s front entrance. First arriving command and Hartford Police Department officers conducted a rapid search of the structure, removing a disoriented male from the basement, where the fire had originated, and evacuating two sleeping residents from second-floor apartments.
As part of the early suppression effort, an FST was deployed into the basement, helping to suppress heat and slow the fire before hose lines were advanced. A rapid fire attack followed, with the first-arriving engine establishing a water supply from a hydrant on Mill Street and sending crews to the basement to begin extinguishment.
While the basement sustained moderate fire and smoke damage, the first-floor restaurant experienced only minimal smoke damage, and the second-floor apartments and offices were unaffected—no smoke, water, or ventilation-related damage was reported. Residents were able to return to their homes once utilities were restored.
Mutual aid was provided at the Working Still level by the Slinger Fire Department, St. Lawrence Fire Company, and Lifestar Ambulance. Additional support came from Hartford Electric & Water Utilities and WE Energies, who temporarily shut off and later restored utilities to the structure.
Following the incident, investigators from Hartford Fire & Rescue and Hartford Police Department confirmed the fire originated from a malfunctioning natural gas water heater in the basement.
