West Bend, WI – [March 3, 2025] – Fire Suppression Solutions, in partnership with LifeSafe Technologies, recently hosted a live demonstration showcasing the effectiveness of TRF+ fire suppressant in combating high-risk specialty fires, including lithium-ion battery fires. The event, held in collaboration with the West Bend Fire Department, provided firsthand insight into the challenges of battery fires and the critical role of advanced suppression technology.
With lithium-ion batteries now powering everything from household electronics to electric vehicles, fire departments are increasingly encountering fires that are difficult to control and prone to re-ignition. The demonstration featured multiple real-world scenarios, showing how TRF+ performs in extreme conditions.
The event drew a diverse group of attendees, including representatives from 15 organizations, including multiple fire departments, school districts, emergency management teams, public works officials, and safety professionals. These experts observed controlled fire tests designed to simulate some of the most difficult fire suppression challenges faced today.
Attendees watched as firefighters ignited a 12 volt lithium ion battery, consisting of 8 cylindrical battery cells that were charged at 100%, allowing thermal runaway to begin before applying TRF+. The suppressant quickly halted propagation, preventing further combustion. In another test, a fully charged battery erupted into flames, demonstrating how quickly these fires escalate. TRF+ was deployed to extinguish the fire and stop the risk of reignition—a critical challenge in battery fires.
Beyond battery hazards, the event also highlighted TRF+’s versatility. A cooking oil fire was ignited and extinguished while temperature changes were carefully measured. A burning tire was swiftly put out.
Another test using Wildfire Pro (WFP) demonstrated its effectiveness to completely stop a wildfire from progressing. The test showed that WFP significantly reduces heat transfer and enhances fire resistance on highly flammable materials such as hay and treated pallets. The formula is non-toxic, non-hazardous, and completely fluorine-free, making it a safe and effective tool in wildfire prevention and suppression.
In total, six live fire tests were conducted, all of which resulted in successful extinguishment with no re-ignition. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, examine the testing conditions, and review the performance of TRF+ across different fire types. The event concluded with positive sign-off from key participants, confirming the effectiveness of the technology demonstrated.
